Having a loved one in prison makes Father’s Day very difficult, loneliness and stress make it hard to be excited for Father’s Day. Here are some ideas to help you through these stressful times and to bring some togetherness to you and your loved one on Father’s Day.
Any Drawings/Letters or Cards from the Children
A handwritten letter, card or drawing from the child (or children) is greatly appreciated on Father’s Day. Make sure you send the mail early so that it arrives to your incarcerated friend or loved one in time. You can always include pictures of the child or children with the letter to make it extra special. Be sure to say Happy Father’s Day and remind him that he is loved. When sending drawings make sure that the drawings/artwork comply with the institutions mailing rules (no glitter, no smelly markers, no perfume on the letters, etc.)
Visit
A visit is the perfect way to let dad know that he is appreciated and loved. Make sure to contact the jail/institution before you visit to double check the visitation hours. Much like a hand-written letter, a visit serves as a good reminder to be on his best behavior so he can get out and be with his family as soon as possible.
Fun Mail
Sending extra money to an incarcerated friend or loved one on Father’s Day is very thoughtful. The funds can be added to their account for extra calls or food. If you do not have a FedPhoneLine number, there is no better time to sign up than Father’s Day.
