Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge was opened in November 1995, built with the intention of housing incarcerated Aboriginal women. The focus on “Healing” was to be the priority for Aboriginal women offenders. The Lodge is guided by a 'Vision' that was developed by Elders during the planning process. The Vision speaks to the process as well as the approach to be utilized at the Lodge. The Lodge is based on the five principles identified in 'Creating Choices Task Force' which includes Empowerment, Meaningful and Responsible Choices, Respect and Dignity, Supportive Environment and Shared Responsibility.
Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge is a multi-level standalone open campus facility. It consists of a Main Lodge and a Spiritual Lodge that are central in facility layout design.
